Torano Nuovo · Abruzzo · Italia
Four generations in a hill town above the Adriatic. Montepulciano and Trebbiano made almost as they were in 1964 — hand-picked, hand-destemmed, no pumps, no new oak, and an archive of bottles that still reaches back to the first vintage.

Four generations of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo in Torano Nuovo — biodynamic vines, hand-destemmed fruit, and cellar releases held back for decades.
Four generations, one hill, a cellar that still measures time in decades.
Four generations; one hill; a cellar where vintages spend more time asleep than awake. Taste what patience does.
La tenuta
Emidio Pepe began bottling in 1964 — a year so poor for Abruzzo that most growers sold their grapes to the local co-operative. He kept his, made a wine he believed in, and laid the first bottles down in a cellar beneath the family house. That cellar has never stopped growing.
Today his granddaughters run the estate. The grapes are still hand-picked into small crates, still hand-destemmed on wooden tables, still crushed by foot. The wines still see no new oak, only concrete and glass — and in a good year, they'll still rest in bottle for four years before release.
Fifteen hectares on a single hill, oriented to the first sun of morning. The soils are a patchwork of clay, limestone, and river gravel left by the Vibrata. The wind off the Adriatic dries the canopies by noon; the Gran Sasso blocks the night heat coming down from the Apennines.
